#FMCoronaPark18 Pop-Up Photo Exhibit
A program by the FMCP Community Advisory Board with @Queenscapes

Please join us for #FMCoronaPark18 Pop-Up Photo Exhibit on view July 21 -22, 2018 in the Unisphere Gallery, 2nd floor.

The two day exhibition is the culmination of a Flushing Meadows Corona Park Community Advisory Board (CAB) program in collaboration with the Queens-focused photography blog Queenscapes. The photo walk and social media photo contest is an initiative to use NYC parks in creative ways that promote healthier communities.

This exhibit will feature the winning entries of the #FMCoronaPark18 photo contest. Most of the photos selected were taken at the photo walk of the same name on Saturday, June 30th. The exhibit’s theme is to highlight the underappreciated areas of the southern section of Flushing Meadows Corona Park. The contest was open to anyone who uploaded photographs directly to the Instagram social media app. 30 separate photographers were selected to display their photos, and an additional 4 photos were chosen as “Best of Show” to be highlighted individually. Top photos and participating photographers will be eligible for special prizes from Delta Airlines, New York Hall of Science, Applebee’s Grill & Bar, Chipotle Mexican Grill, Tortilleria Nixtamal Restaurant, Queens Night Market and Back to the Lab NYC.

Here are the four winning photography categories:

  1. Best stand alone shot of landmark within park
  2. Best portrait against landmark within park
  3. Best action shot or candid of parkgoer.
  4. Best shot of a hidden gem within Flushing Meadows Corona Park.

The exhibit will be on view during museum hours (11am – 5pm) Saturday and Sunday.

Please join us on Saturday, July 21 for the opening reception at 2pm.

And on Sunday, July 22 for the reveal and announcement of the winning prizes at 2pm.

Adolfo Steve Vazquez and Salvador Espinoza of Queenscapes led the curating team, which will also included local Queens photographers Roy Martinez. The jury met on July 8th to select the 4 best photos and additional 30 photos to be featured in the pop up.

The pop-up photo exhibit is presented by Flushing Meadows Corona Park Community Advisory Board and NYC Parks with support from the Parks Build Healthy Communities Grant, led by Partnerships for Parks and made possible by Building Healthy Communities, an initiative of the Mayor’s Office and the Fund for Public Health NYC.
