Artist Opportunities

Thank you for your interest in the Queens Museum! We will not be viewing unsolicited submissions until further notice. Our biennial, Queens International, features Queens-based artists and is conducted through open call. Unfortunately, the open call for submissions for Queens International 2012, opening in February, is now closed. Please check back regularly for updates and other artist opportunities, including those for our Partnership Gallery, listed below.

Open Call for Submissions – “A Frame Apart 2: Short Films on Queens”

Postmark Deadline: March 31, 2011

There are over 118 nationalities and cultural groups living in Queens. Many are recent immigrants while others have been here for several generations. There are stories from around the world on its streets – some visible to the casual visitor, others unfolding more discreetly. Queens is both a muse and a battleground, simultaneously a node connecting world cities and a patchwork of insular neighborhoods. The advent of digital video technologies has given rise to numerous documentaries on the complex and fast-evolving cultural phenomena of this borough, as well as playful experimentations with forms and genres that come with the meeting of disparate cultures. With “A Frame Apart 2″ the Queens Museum of Art once again showcases these singular visions, which are both intimately local and inexorably intertwined with the tumultuous forces of global capital. The video program is will be publically screened as a complement to the closing celebration of the Queens Museum’s biennale of Queens-based artists, Queens International 2012: Three Points Make a Triangle in May of 2011.

QMA’s Public Events Department invites film/video-makers to submit work that is either about or set in Queens for this showcase. Works should have been made since 2009 with a maximum running time of 30 mins. All styles and genres welcome.

To submit please include:
