MetLife First Sundays for Families presents Mexican Celebration of the Day of the Dead

1:30-4pm Death Collective Installation & Altar Making Workshop
QMA’s New New Yorkers Program and Local Project presents a tour by four (4) different artists and their perspective of Heaven, Purgatory, Hell and Earthly Existence. The resulting collaborative installation results in a contemplation about destiny and choice. On-view November 1 -15, 2009. Death Collective is Miguel Luciano, Carla Torres, Calder Zwicky and Riley Hooker. Exhibition curated by Carolina Penafiel, Director of Local Project.  After checking out the installation, head to our Education Studios where participating artists will be leading a hands-on artmaking workshop.

El Huevo Productions and La Carpa Theater present “I Love You to Death”


La Catarina, Posada’s famous skeleton character who has now become an icon of the Day of the Dead, takes us through the story of Cirilo, a man caught in the recession in New York without work. Juana, Cirilo’s wife has left behind family and friends to reach the “American Dream,” while struggling to hold on to love. A New York immigrant story with a twist. Immediately afterwards, talk with the performers over free pan de muerto and hot chocolate.

1:30 - 4pm: It between shows, join FreeStyle Arts in a collaborative costume- and mask-making project using found and recycled materials in the Unisphere Gallery.
