Dance in Queens: Summer Dance Residency - CALL FOR PROPOSALS

TOPAZ ARTS and Queens Museum of Art announce a call for artist proposals for the sixth annual Dance in Queens summer residency and performance series. This program offers choreographers the unique opportunity to rehearse and perform at the Queens Museum of Art. Taking place Summer 2008, Dance in Queens encourages the creation of new dance works, allowing viewers a rare glimpse of the creative process. New this year, rehearsals will take place both within the galleries of the museum and at TOPAZ ARTS during June-August 2008.

Four choreographers will be selected from a competitive application process. Awardees will receive free rehearsal space, a stipend of $500 and a public presentation of their work at the Queens Museum. Choreographers and their dancers will have up to six weeks access to rehearsal space, with each residency concluding in a performance at the Queens Museum of Art as part of Passport Fridays music, dance, and film program. Each choreographer performs on one of the following Friday dates: August 1, 8, 15, 22, 2008.

Choreographers from all five boroughs of New York City may apply. Applications will be reviewed on the basis of the proposed work and videotape sample. Application form may be downloaded at www.topazarts.org or www.queensmuseum.org. Award notifications will be sent via email by May 15th.
