“And the Verdict Is …” Spring 2018 Film Series
SEXISM AND RACISM

Do the facts lead to truth, and does truth lead to justice? This 8-week series focuses on movies that address the legal system, foregrounding questions of ethics, gender, and race.

Each movie is introduced by Mark Ethan Toporek, who also leads a post-screening discussion. He is a member of the Actors’ Studio, who has appeared in films including “The Secret Lives of Dentists,” “The Confession” and “Lesser Prophets.” He has been presenting the Film Series at 92Y since 2003 and at the Queens Museum since 1998.

April 11 Confirmation (2016), directed by Rick Famuyiwa, 110 minutes. The nomination of Supreme Court Judge Clarence Thomas (Wendell Pierce) is called into question when a former colleague, Anita Hill (Kerry Washington), testifies that he sexually harassed her.

April 18 Marshall (2017), directed by Reginald Hudlin, 118 minutes. Chadwick Boseman stars as the young Thurgood Marshall, who aligns with a reluctant Jewish lawyer (Josh Gad) to defend a black man accused of rape in the 1940’s. Also starring Kate Hudson.

 

Wednesdays, 2-5pm

This film series takes place in the second-floor theater and is free with Queens Museum admission and open to the general public (with a special invitation to older adults).
