OBJECTIVE
To find out what the class knows about Tiffany, what questions they might
have and after the trip, what they have learned about Tiffany.
INTRODUCTION
What do the students know about Tiffany?
What is their interest level in the subject? What areas would you like the
class to concentrate on when looking at the works of Louis Comfort Tiffany?
These are questions that can be answered by doing a K-W-L chart with the
class.
MATERIALS
3 pieces of chart paper (1 for know,
1 for want to know and 1 for what we've learned)
Marker
PROCEDURE
Let the class know that they are going
on a trip, or will be starting to study the works of Louis Comfort Tiffany.
Have a discussion about what the class knows, some questions to ask might
be "Have you heard of Tiffany before? What do you know about him?" Write
down all responses, even if you know they are incorrect. The class will
be able to look back on their initial responses after learning about Tiffany
and will be able to see how much they have learned. "What would you like
to know about Tiffany? Do you have any questions about the man, and his
life or work?"
After visiting the museum or having spent some time on studying Tiffany's
works, fill in the "What We've Learned" chart. The class will be able
to see all the new things that they have learned and what questions they
have or were not able to answer.
Another interesting question to ask the class is "Why do you think we
are studying the works of Louis Comfort Tiffany?"

ASSESSMENT
The "What We've Learned" chart will
provide a good assessment of what the class has learned over the course
of study. Have you noticed an increase in enthusiasm when discussing the
subject? Are they able to discuss the works of Louis Comfort Tiffany with
confidence?
