Local Hero Nominated for CNN Hero of the Year

New York’s own Jorge Munoz has been selected by a Blue Ribbon Panel to become one of the Top 10 CNN Heroes of 2009. Jorge is being honored for the extraordinary work he’s done helping tens of thousands of hungry New Yorkers with his mobile soup kitchen. Jorge has served more than 70,000 free meals to New Yorkers in need.

CNN Heroes is an international contest to honor ordinary people, like Jorge, who are doing extraordinary work. The campaign, hosted by Anderson Cooper, culminates in a star-studded, Oscar-like awards show at the Kodak Theater in LA that airs on Thanksgiving Night when Anderson will announce the 2009 CNN Hero of the Year and award him or her $100,000. The CNN Hero of the Year is selected by your votes through an online contest that ends November 19th. So do your part to make our hometown hero the nation’s hero by voting for Jorge.
