Making and Breaking Cities is a film series inspired by the current exhibitions Detroit Disassembled: Photographs by Andrew Moore and Elegies for Empire: Selections from Andrew Moore’s Inside Havana and Russia: Beyond Utopia

ROGER & ME (1989), directed by Michael Moore, 87 minutes. This award-winning documentary laments the decline of Detroit, following the ironic Moore in his attempts to track down General Motors chairman Roger Smith. Plus a clip from WHO KILLED THE ELECTRIC CAR? [2006], directed by Chris Paine.

The Film Series is created by Mark Ethan, a member of the Actors Studio, who has appeared in films including The Secret Lives of Dentists, The Confession and Lesser Prophets. He has been presenting the Film Series at the Queens Museum of Art since 1998. Videos obtained courtesy of Columbia University’s Film Division.
