Looking Series: LOOKING AT THE MANY SIDES OF AN ARTIST
Thursday, November 19, QMA Theatre
Please support the program with a suggested donation of $10/class.

In this series of five slide talks, we focus on an artist who is either the subject of a one-person show or part of a group exhibition on view at a museum during the fall season. We consider the various or changing approaches to content and technique investigated over the course of a career. There are often surprises awaiting the viewer who attempts to follow and absorb the enormous stylistic diversity, often seemingly contradictory, involved in the aesthetic journey of restlessly experimenting artists. While the shows considered focus on a particular aspect of an artist’s work, we look at the varied aesthetic ideas that their art encompassed.

On this day, we will consider Arshile Gorky, subject of Arshile Gorky: A Retrospective at the Philadelphia Museum of Art through 01/10/10.

The Looking Series is organized by Miriam Brumer, former Coordinator of Adult Programs at the Queens Museum of Art and a practicing artist.
